Use citation sources
Turn owned and competitor source gaps into practical outreach and content work.
Overview
Open Competitors and select Sources. Match the period, model, topic and tag filters, then choose a domain or URL to see its related questions, collection dates and original answers. Filters stay in the URL; lists are paginated.
- Explicit citations: URLs cited in the final answer
- Search references: URLs retrieved while generating the answer
- Legacy sources: older records that combine retrieved and cited URLs
- Failed collections are separate from answers with no brand mention
Recommended workflow
- Filter to citations in competitor-only answers to find questions that leave your brand out.
- Select a domain or URL and read the related answers.
- Open the cited page and check its subject and relevance.
- After editing content, compare the same questions and models across several collection dates.
Interpretation and limits
Competitor-only filtering requires successful answers with a registered competitor, no own-brand mention and explicit citations. Legacy sources are not treated as explicit citations. Surfaze does not automatically audit your whole website or guarantee that a content edit changes an AI answer; watch for small samples and model changes.
